WBFN Outings

Winter OutingWBFN Winter Tree Identification Field Trip in The Northumberland Forest.

Walks and field trips are held throughout the year. Local activities are a good way for members to enjoy our area’s natural heritage, share their experience and learn through observation.

Leaders: Don Davis and Roger Frost
Date and Time: Sunday, July 22, 9:00 a.m.

Meet at the intersection of Loyalist and Anderson Roads at 9:00 a.m. We will search the roadside for butterflies. On a past outing to this site, we found 25 species of butterfly. This outing will last until about noon.

Directions: From Welcome, take Hwy. 2 west to Kellogg Rd. Turn north on Kellogg Rd. and follow it to the end. Turn left onto Loyalist Rd. and follow to Anderson Rd.

Date and Time: Sunday, July 8, 1:30 p.m.

Tim and Katie manage their farm with an emphasis on conservation. They have worked on this project with partners such as the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority and the Species at Risk Farm Incentive Program (through the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association). This will be a 2 to 3 hour outing.
  • Meet at the Port Hope carpool lot at Hwy. 401 and Cty. Rd. 28 at 1:00 p.m.
  • Alternatively, arrive at the farm at 8250 Langstaff Rd. in Kendal at 1:30 p.m.

Directions:
From Port Hope, take Cty. Rd. 28 north to Cty. Rd. 9. Turn west on Cty. Rd. 9 and follow 9 through Elizabethville. Langstaff is the second sideroad west of the Northumberland/Durham County boundary, north of Cty. Rd. 9.

Christmas Bird Counts are held in a specific geographic area. Those living within the count circle are always invited to record birds visiting their feeders and contact the compilers with their list. They should check to make sure that they live within the count circle.
